Sangiovese is an Italian grape variety with a history dating back to Roman times. Believed to have originated from Tuscany, its name is derived from Latin, Sanguis Jovis, or “blood of Jovis”, referring to Jovis, King of the Gods and the God of Sky and Thunder in Roman mythology. Today, Sangiovese is the most important red grape varietal of central Italy and famous for styles like Chianti Classico and Brunello di Montalcino.
